Position overview
As a Backend Engineer at GlideWay, you will design and maintain the services behind every trip: ride lifecycle, dispatch, payments, communication, and location. You will focus on correctness, security, and reliability so that riders, drivers, and operations teams can depend on the platform at all hours.
What you will do
- Design, build, and maintain backend APIs and services in Node.js.
- Develop ride lifecycle systems, from request and matching through completion.
- Build and maintain real-time communication using sockets.
- Maintain payment integrations, including Stripe, with careful handling of money movement.
- Support rider-driver communication and location and mapping services.
- Implement authentication and authorization with least-privilege access.
- Protect database integrity with sound schema design, constraints, and migrations.
- Improve API security, logging, observability, testing, scalability, and reliability.
Required qualifications
- Professional experience building backend services with Node.js and TypeScript or JavaScript.
- Experience designing and operating REST APIs.
- Strong working knowledge of PostgreSQL or another relational database.
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, and common API security practices.
- Comfort working with Git, code review, and automated testing.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with Supabase, Prisma, or similar Postgres tooling.
- Experience with Socket.IO or other real-time systems.
- Experience integrating Stripe or other payment providers.
- Experience with location, routing, or mapping services.
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and on-call practices.
